International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day was celebrated on 8 March, 2017 with the campaign theme, Be Bold for Change. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Servus is committed to promoting workplace diversity and continues to do its part to create and foster a working environment where the contributions of ALL members of staff are valued.
The Facilities Management industry has the reputation for being a male dominated one. Servus CEO, Edward Kacal, lamented the fact that for one reason or the other, Servus does not get applications from females the technical positions within the company and urged more females for apply for these positions. While men and women approach the challenges of FM differently, Kirsten Smith, co-founder of Women in Facility Management (WiFM), stated that it is the unique strengths that position women to be valuable contributors to the FM industry. This is a point that was also echoed by Servus FM, June Winston, who has been in the industry for over a decade.
The role of facilities manager is evolving and internationally, the number of women in facilities management is on the rise. We hope that this trend continues.
